Explained: Transition to a net-zero economy

We helped a Dutch insurer in their transition from an article 6 passive equity fund, to a deep green article 9 fund that follows a Paris Aligned Benchmark (PAB).

A Paris Aligned Benchmark has the objective to be carbon neutral in 2050 with a yearly decarbonisation rate of 7%. PAB excludes organisations with income from fossil fuels.

The main reason why we were selected was the level of being green. Last year this client also committed to the transition of their portfolio to net zero.

We engage with our corporate holding on the 3Es: Energy Transition, Environmental Sustainability and Equality and Inclusive Growth. The objectives are specific to each company based on its impact on the theme, its ESG score or analysis by external initiatives.
Within this framework, we establish an in-depth dialogue with companies encouraging them to:

1) Align their strategies with the goals of the Paris Agreement.

2) Improve their environmental footprint (such as improving their water use efficiency).

We have helped one of our clients with a 10-year lease contract to finance more than 28,000 solar panels located in a solar park in the Netherlands. This project contributes to the ambition of this client to become CO2 neutral by 2050.

The 7-hectare solar meadow will reduce CO2 emissions by 5.1 million kilograms a year. Every year, 9.2 million kWh of renewable energy is generated to supply the factories of our client.
