06/04/07New Technologies: the explosion of online video

According to a eMarketer study conducted last year, the number of Americans who downloaded or streamed video at least once a month in 2003 was 52.3 millions. That number is predicted to reach 123.4 millions this year and 157 millions by 2010. As the amount of video and other online content explodes, users need help sifting through it. * Making videos more talkative
Embedding links and pop-up information into videos has been hailed as an upcoming technology revolution since at least 2005. So far hotspotting, or hypervideo, remains confidential. But some say it is due to explode this year.

* Are you a tagger?
A study released in January by the Pew Internet & American Life Project found that 28% of Internet users have used tagging. Described as the process of creating labels for online content, tagging is a more sophisticated and collaborative form of bookmarking which evolved as a way to make sense of the exploding number of sites, photos and videos.
